Default Guild Wars Factions or Nightfall?

Hi, I am Mistah Eff. If any of you are on the GW2 guru forums you may know me from my acc there. But anyways, now that my introduction is over, I have a question to ask. Factions or Nightfall? I've had prophecies a while now, and I'm in no rush to level up, (I only have a level 7 and 5) but I still need something new. I am getting tired of the pre-searing Ascalon storyline and I want something new and fresh, mostly profession wise, but it'd be nice to see Cantha or Elona.
At first I was thinking Nightfall, mostly because of the Dervish and how cool they look, and the awesome starting appearance of all the other professions. But I don't know if that should be a selling point. So I'm kind of thinking of Factions, because the two new professions look really fun to play. Can you tell me a little bit about them? Like, is ritualist gameplay slow and boring because you always have to summon a spirit to fight or something? I don't know much about the other professions like Assassin, Ritualist, Paragon, or Dervish. It kind of sucks because I like the looks of all of them.

Both.

But if you have to pick one or the other, I'd say Nightfall definitely. It has a better and longer story, heroes and better skills. At least I think so.

But if you're still in pre-searing, it's going to be a LONG time before you can get to the other campaigns. Especially Nightfall because the quest to go there from the Prophecies world is really tough.

So, did you leave that place? Did you already go to the Academy? If you're still in pre-searing, wow, no wonder you are bored.

Nightfall would be best IMO. The story is nice, doesn't drag on. Factions is too cheesy, eye-roll worthy, yet it's all over in a flash.

True, the Ritualist and Assassin are a lot more fun that the Dervish or Paragon. But there's so many of them already, that it's difficult for them to join groups.

Your characters are only lvl7 and 5 now, so you should keep playing them, even if it seems boring. Later on, they will have better skills, and there will be a lot more fun ways to kill stuff. Trust me on this ;-)

So: get Nightfall.
1) The story adds on to Prophecies.
2) The elite skills there will be a great addition to your Prophecies characters.
3) Missions are a lot more fun than Factions.
4) The place still has people to play with, Factions is sooooooo deserted!

I really hope you don't think pre-searing is all that Prophecies has to offer. Id say you should get Nightfall because the endgame content is better and the storyline is better, in my opinion. If you can though, get both.

What lorazcyk said and you get the heroes to use and since you mentioned GW2 I assume that you'll want to fill the HoM, and Nightfall can give more options to fill it than Factions.

Both of my characters are already in post-searing Ascalon, and I hate it. I know you can leave but a runner told me to get to at least level 10 before I leave Ascalon. (the post searing one) and I will ONLY do pve. I don't really care about leveling at all, I mean, it's always good to level up, but it's no selling point, as in, I don't care about getting a level 20 before I get a campaign. I MIGHT go with nightfall, but the factions professions look really cool.

get both, seek a trilogy deal as they are in fact cheaper than buying single campaigns.
failing that get factions in prep for incoming canthian related content update
...(and you know you want a rit)

If you can only get one, get Nightfall. Excellent starting area.

Roll a Ranger or Warrior if you do not like Dervish and Paragon. You will have good heroes when you finish. The story, for me, really held my attention. Quests are fun too, for the most part. Difficulty ramps up slowly but steadily until by the end rest assured you will not be bored!

Nightfall is longer than Factions, add in the heroes and it is more entertainment and more bang for your buck in the long run. Ideally, of course, get both.

@mrNickname: Of course you will. Why do you think they'd publish Factions if it was irrelevant? But you don't have to play it if you don't wanna, you can play any of the chapters independently.

@Mistah Eff: The first thing you should do is explain to us why you dislike Prophecies so much. It's almost impossible to remain such low level unless you avoid quests and missions on purpose. I can only assume some deep dislike of some sort. And by identifying those we might be able to better find you something you'd enjoy. Is it the post-Searing Ascalon environment? It's been known to shock or depress some people. Is it the professions? You don't like the story?

Don't pick characters on looks alone, it may backfire. Take myself, I like the way Monks look best, but I don't click at all with Monk gameplay. Still, I got a Monk, dressed her in nice armor, but I can't be arsed to actually play with her, haven't even reached lvl 20, haven't advanced much in the storyline, haven't researched builds or weapons/runes/insignias. Maybe it sounds familiar?

But, to answer you questions. Ritualist is considered one of the most flexible professions, you are not going to be limited to spirit spamming, it's just one aspect of their capabilities. And even when playing with spirits, don't imagine you just spawn them and they do all the work for you, there's more subtlety and skill involved. The Dervish has recently been completely remade and early reports are very happy with the changes, looks like a very fun profession to play. Assassin is another very popular and flexible profession, with lots of uses, ranging from tank to speed runner. Afraid I'm not that familiar with the Paragon.

FWIW, Prophecies, Factions and NightFall were meant to be played in this order, from the storyline point of view. There's connections, but for the most part they are independent tales and the only way to know if you'll like them is to get both and try them. But be warned that all the chapters have their share of dark and depressing areas.

@Urcsumug

I don't get much time to play, (I can only play at my dads) but it's not really a problem, because it's not a p2p game, so I am not leveling up at a quick pace. I just HATE post searing Ascalon, because it's so depressing and boring. I got run to the east of it with all the snow but it's too high level, so I have to go back and level up before returning.

And I hate pre-searing too. Not enough options, too few places to go, it just bores me. And once you get Krytan armor that's it. No more. It really sucks. So I think that one of the other campaigns might be right, I'm sick of playing castle/European themed games, and well, I think Tyria is based off of that.

Cantha looks very interesting because of the Asian style building and stuff and it looks really beautiful. Elona looks good but at the same time it looks kind of dull, scenery wise.
